August 2014 (2)

Here  is my Granny Smith espaliered apple in late winter and just starting to show signs of flowering buds.  The soil has been cleared of debris and fed with a generous layer of homemade compost then covered with sugar cane straw mulch.

I have used horticultural glue on masking tape as a barrier against codling moth, and I will be boosting the defences of new growth with an application of aerated compost tea in the next few days.
